OUTDOORS AT ST STEPHEN'S

The grounds at St Stephens are wonderful. We are extremely fortunate to have not only space, but variety as well : there are many different areas of the land that lend themselves brilliantly to extending children's experiences and learning, in a whole variety of ways.

Main Areas / Outdoor Projects.

*Hard standing games area.
*Wildflower meadow.
*'Trim Trail' adventure play area.
*Apple tree area and willow structure den.
*'Wild Tribe Wood'.
*Hills and slopes.
*Grassed football pitch and athletics track.
*Gardening area including raised beds, raspberry patch, polytunnels.
*Chicken run with our six laying hens.
*Wooded slopes.
*Wildlife pond
*Separate KS1 play area containing a mud kitchen.

With such an amazing variety of outdoor facilities, we place huge importance on Outdoor Learning and have big plans to enhance and build on what we already have!

Curriculum time is given to Outdoor Learning, throughout the year and across the school. This may be in the form of a special day of activities, or delivered as part of a morning Maths / Writing session, or provided as 'Wild Tribe', which takes place every week of term time (including the Winter terms), for Foundation and KS1.

Lunchtimes
At lunchtimes, children can choose to take part in a number of different activities, which are led by our Year Five and Six Sports Leaders. The activities take place in various locations around the grounds and we are always open to suggestions from pupils for a new activity.

Here are some of the choices :

*Sports including ball games on the tarmac / sports field.
*Dance on the playground.
*Junk Band on the KS1 playground.
*Mud kitchen on the KS1 playground.
*Den building in the wooded area.
*Chicken keeping in the animal area.
*Gardening - raised flower beds and jobs around the school.
