14th March 2018
We were lucky enough to take part in Songfest 2018 this week, at Launceston Town Hall.
It is a celebration run by the Cornwall Music Education Hub to celebrate the singing talents of the young people of Cornwall through the Songfest programme, featuring young soloists and massed choirs from around Cornwall.
This year's theme was a Song for all Seasons, with a piece for each month of the year. The children sang a variety of traditional Cornish songs and shanties, as well as reading poems by authors such as Charles Causley.
We were also lucky enough to be presented with the Cornish Singing Schools Award.
Last year, the Hub launched a scheme which recognises schools where singing is already a key part of school life as well as supporting those who want to develop their own vocal strategy - Cornish Singing Schools.
The scheme was developed in collaboration with national vocal specialist, Baz Chapman, and offers a framework which schools can use to develop their vocal activity. We were excited to present our first 34 Cornish Singing School Awards last March but we are keen to work with more schools! We can help to ensure your school is singing regularly and singing well.
A big well done to Mrs Gilbert for leading singing at St Stephens!
