Science - planting

As part of our current learning theme 'plants', Year 1 have been discussing what plants need to grow, observing and comparing a variety of growing conditions and planting their own broad bean.

We made predictins for what we thought would happen to a broad bean seed in four different conditions; on a windowsill with water, on a windowsill without water, in a dark cupboard with water, in a dark cupboard without water. We have been observing the growth and over the past few weeks. We are surprised to find the seed in the cupboard with water has grown really tall - but it doesn't look as healthy as the seed with water on the windowsill.

We have also planted our own broad beans in cotton wool and have been observing their growth. They are all gowing successfully and we have also been measuring how tall they have grown.
