The Great Fire on the Playground!

As part of their theme, 'The Graet Fire of London', Year 2 built their own Pudding Lane on the playground. Under the watchful eyes of some newly appointed St. Stephens firefighters, the children were able to watch the blaze start and spread through the houses! We were also able to discuss fire safety alongside the Year 1 theme, 'The Gunpowder Plot'.

The children were enthralled by the learning opportunity and excitedly discussed what they had witnessed:

'It smelled like burnt toast!'

'The flames were small then got bigger and went smaller again.'

'Bits of ash were flying throught the air and there was lots of smoke.'

'It was really hot so we had to stand back.'

'I could hear crackling of flames.'

'the houses burnt down really quickly.'

'The air was grey with smoke.'
