Welcome

Welcome to Class 2's page!

Our class teachers are Mrs Hooper and Mrs Smith.

Other adults who support us are Miss Caines, Mrs Bye, Mr Houghton and Mrs Glover.

Our themes for the Summer Term are How do we know so much about where Sappho used to live? and How does the Geography of Kampong Ayer compare with the Geography of where I live?

Our first theme is a history theme - How do we know so much about where Sappho used to live?

This investigation enables pupils to explore a number of key historical concepts, particularly
the nature of
evidence and cause and effect. It also introduces the pupils to the central
paradigm of history – studying the past to understand the present better and to inform the
future in a more enlightened manner. Pupils are able to think about how historians and
archaeologists go about obtaining the evidence they need to reconstruct and interpret the past
and particularly the distinction between primary and secondary evidence.

Our second is a geography theme - How does the Geography of Kampong Ayer compare with the Geography of where I live?

The core aim of this investigation is to support children, through a range of learning activities,
to make comparisons between their lives and those of people in a small diverse community in
the country of Brunei on the tropical island of Borneo in southeast Asia. As they do so the
children develop core knowledge and understanding of the fundamental geographical concepts
of
place; location; space; distribution; resources; settlement; natural and human environments
and environmental interaction and interdependence through the application of a wide range of
skills.

A copy of this theme's home learning grid will be sent home at the start of the theme and uploaded onto the 'Home Learning' section on the website. Home learning can be recorded in the homework books, via photos, models etc. Home learning books will be given out on a Friday and expected back in school the following Wednesday to enable feedback to be given.

Reading is really important and we want our children to develop a love of reading and books. Please try and read with your child every night.

Our online blog page will be kept as up-to-date as possible, with photographs uploaded so you can see what we are getting up to! Please feel free to also have a look at our half-term overview and weekly timetable (in the curriculum section).

If you have any questions, queries or problems throughout the year then please feel free to come and see us or a member of our team at the end of the school day.

Thank you for your continued support!
