Safer Internet Day 2026

Safer Internet Day: Learning About AI and Staying Smart Online

This Safer Internet Day, our focus was on one of the most talked‑about technologies of our time: Artificial Intelligence. With AI becoming part of everyday life, we took the opportunity to explore what it can do well, where it has limits, and how we can use it safely and responsibly.

What We Learned About AI

During our activities, we discovered that AI can be a helpful tool. It can support learning and make certain tasks quicker and easier. When used thoughtfully, it can be a great assistant in the classroom and beyond.

But we also learned something just as important: AI cannot think, feel, or understand emotions. It doesn’t have real experiences or empathy, and it can sometimes get things wrong. That’s why it’s essential to use AI with care and always check information rather than accepting everything at face value.

Our Safer Internet Day Takeaway

Exploring AI helped us understand both its strengths and its limits. We came away with a clearer sense of how to use technology wisely and safely, and why staying connected to real people is so important.

Safer Internet Day reminded us that the internet is a powerful place — and with the right knowledge, we can make it a safer one for everyone.

We had great fun discussing and deciding which image was real and which two were false and created using AI. We wonder if you can spot it?
