School Closures and routine drills in Emergencies

At St Stephen’s Community Academy, the safety and security of all pupils is our highest priority. To ensure that everyone is well prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency, we conduct fire evacuation drills and security (invacuation) drills once every term.

Pupils are informed in advance that a drill will take place during the week, which helps them approach the practice with confidence and without unnecessary anxiety. All members of staff are fully trained in the procedures and follow clear routines, enabling the drills to be carried out calmly and effectively.

Regular practice ensures that both staff and pupils are familiar with the necessary steps, reinforcing the message that preparation is essential. These procedures are an integral part of our safeguarding commitment and reflect our dedication to providing a safe and secure environment for every child.

How parents/carers can help
We encourage parents and carers to talk with their children at home about why these drills are important. Explaining that they are simply practice routines, designed to keep everyone safe, can reassure children and strengthen their confidence when participating in school drills.
