Ashlea visit from Sustrans

This Monday, 8th January, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Ashlea from Sustrans. Ashlea looks at air pollution linked to transport and helped us to think about ways we travel around our local area. We took time to think about different ways we travel and their impact on the air quality around us. To get us used to them, we used microscopes to examine lots of things up close like: hair; clothing; skin; objects in the classroom and then think about things outside we could examine. Lichen are affected by air quality and according to that, different varieties will grow. We went outside to investigate where around our school had the best (most lichen growth) and the poorest (least lichen growth) air quality. Unsurprisingly, the area nearest the road and houses had the fewer lichens whereas the cherry-blossom tree next to the field was covered!
