The King's Coronation - WB 1st May 2023

In year F, we have been learning about the King's Coronation for the last 2 weeks. We have:
  • talked about what a Coronation is
  • looked back at the Queen's Coronation and talked about what might be similar and what might be different for the King
  • studied maps of London, looking out for some of the key locations we will see when we watch the King's Coronation
  • looked at pictures of the royal carriages and thought about which one we'd prefer and why
  • talked about what a crown is, who wears one and why
  • looked at who are the heirs to the throne
The children were very enthused by their learning and took it into their play based learning. We saw them:
  • making crowns
  • setting up tea parties (both inside and outside)
  • using the tree stumps as thrones and pretending they were kings/queens
  • making wan ds to wave for the king
  • painting shields
  • making our own royal carriages using large loose parts
  • playing with the small world play castle
  • making up songs for the king and performing them to our friends
In drawing club, we have been designing carriages, crowns and castles and writing a sentence about them.

We also enjoyed taking part in the PFTA Coronation obstacle course in the Church hall and singing to our parents and friends in the school playground with the whole school.
