Music Wellbeing Groups

27th March 2023

We are very fortunate to have been supported by the Cornwall Music Service so we can offer small group and 1-1 music tuition to children at St Stephens .We are also very lucky to have the talented Ms. Gilbert running these sessions alongside the music lessons she leads across the school with whole classes. The children at St Stephens love listening to and playing a variety of instruments . Research also informs us why music is good for the 'whole' child , which is why we are delighted to be able to give the children this opportunity.

Music is good for many aspects of our wellbeing and we can see this through changes in our bodies when we listen to it. We can see changes in our stress response and also in our immune system and our heart-rate .Listening to music can help us with relaxation, regulating emotions, motivation, study and sleep. It will come as no surprise that if we want to lift our mood, it can help to play faster, more upbeat music, and calming, soothing, lullaby-type music helps if we want to relax or sleep, but it’s also very personal and what works for one person may not work for another: the key is to find what works for you.
