Sports for Champions

30th November 2023

Today we were absolutely delighted to welcome Great Britain's double mini trampoline gymnast Kirsty Way. Kirsty led a whole school assembly sharing her journey and what inspired her to follow her sporting dreams, we got to see videos of her in action including when her landings didn't quite go to plan! Kirsty has already achieved great things in her career including being the second highest scorer of all time, she is the current British champion, Senior European champion and English national champion. As one child said in our assembly "Wow, I'm very proud of you"., She then led each class through their paces on their sponsored circuits .Thank you to everyone who was able to sponsor this fantastic event. Not only do these visits inspire ambition in our pupils but they let them recognise that success starts from humble beginnings and hard work, dedication and a passion to be the very best you can be. The majority of the money raised goes towards supporting young athletes like Kirsty, some goes on the actual visit admin and the rest comes back into the school. We are planning to put the money towards a very exciting swimming project that we will tell you about when we have more information and dates etc. have been confirmed!
What a fantastic morning we have had. The children were enthusiastic, respectful and determined -great job Team St Stephens Community Academy. Kirsty left the following in our comment book...
"Thank you for having me at your wonderful school, full of very talented children. I hope I've inspired them to follow their dreams and maybe one day be a champion.
