Staff Professional Development

28th January 2023

We were absolutely delighted to welcome 10 members of staff from across the AnDaras Trust on Friday to watch our phonics teaching and engage in professional dialogue around early reading skills, assessment and key strategies. Resources to support this key area of the curriculum were shared including the virtual classroom links and portal for Read Write Inc. Early reading and phonics is a real strength of our school and it was great to be able to showcase what we do. The morning was led by Mrs. Amy Hooper, our English Lead, who works tirelessly together with our Phonics Lead Mrs. Hannah Morris-Torr to ensure we give all our children the best opportunities to learn to read. We are also so fortunate that Mrs. Hooper can continually update our practice at St Stephens as she is a Cornwall Literacy Lead who goes and supports other teachers in the county. This means we have regular updates and current research to base our curriculum on .
Feedback from our visitors has been so positive -working and supporting each other is key to creating consistency across our Trust. A huge thank you to all the staff leading phonics groups during this visit -not always easy to teach with such a big audience!
