Education for Sustainability Centre - Autumn Term 2023

Class 5 have completed two sessions (so far) at the Education for Sustainability Centre (formerly the Woodland Skills Centre).

The focus of these sessions has been basic survival where we have covered 'Water, Wild Cooking and Foraging'.

Children have explored a range of common plants and have learned to identify plants that could be 'dinner' or plants that are poisonous and should not be consumed.

As a group, the children have worked to complete challenges such as creating a system to transport water using team work skills and communication.

Class 5 have independtly used their fire building skills to create a balm for healing wounds, making nettle and dandelion tea and cooking 'Claire's Campfire Chilli'.

In our next session, Class 5 will be given basic materials to create a shelter which will then be tested to see if it could withstand high winds and a rainy downpour!
