There is lots you can do at home to help your child:

Reading – picture books, word blending books, RWI colour banded books, sharing a book

Speed sounds – practice these everyday.
Counting – Count everything…steps, chairs, food, people…
Name writing
Getting dresses/undressed independently
Going to the toilet independently
Eating at the table with a knife and fork
Playing with others, sharing, taking turns, negotiating

RWI

As children learn new sounds in their RWI phonics sessions, they will bring home a sound sheet showing the sounds they have learnt. It is important to practise every sound regularly so the children become familiar with them and ultimately use them in their reading.

Virtual Classroom

To support your child's reading, they will have the opportunity to access Read Write Inc. Virtual Classroom lessons from home.

Each half term you will receive a set of links to these lessons via email. They are short, interactive films that will be chosen specifically for your child, to help support in the areas of reading that we have identified at school will help to make the most progress.

We would like the children to watch these videos as often as possible, ideally one video a day. Please encourage them to watch the same video on different days, as repetition is a great way to embed learning.

At St Stephens we are passionate about securing a love of reading, a positive enjoyable experience of stories and books help children to develop a lifelong love of reading. The most helpful thing you can do to support your child’s learning is to read with them at home. We suggest, sharing and enjoying a book with your child. Children in Class F will bring home books for you to share but it can be a book you already have. As your child begins to be able to read we will send home decodable books for your child to read to you – it is still important to share stories with them.

Maths - NCTEM - Teaching for Mastery

Following our maths mastery learning in class every week, we will send home some fun games that you can play with your child, providing a fun way for you to be involved in your child's maths learning.
