The great outdoors!

Year 1/ 2 have been making the most of the beautiful weather we've been having recently by looking after our class flower beds and outside area.
Earlier in the spring, as part of our science learning,  we planted potatoes in one of our vegetable beds, as well as a variety of 'seeds from the kitchen', which we have grown in little pots in our sheltered area.  Today we re-potted our kitchen seeds into their own, larger pots. These included tomatoes, peppers and apple seeds! We are pleased with how they have grown! The potato plants are all growing so we earthed them up a bit to encourage more growth beneath the soil.
We also planted sweetcorn and pumpkins in our second vegetable bed. The children have loved sowing seeds and taking care of what they are growing so we decided to sow even more tomatoes, sunflowers, pansies, peas and beans! We're not sure where we will grow them all but it's exciting to see them 'pop up' from beneath the surface of the soil.
As part of our new science theme, 'animals and humans', we are beginning to learn about animal homes and habitats. As well as the planting today, the children have been creating bug houses (and a hospital!) for our St. Stephens minibeast friends!
