Puppet Making Fun

The past few weeks, our classroom was buzzing with creativity and festive joy as Year 1 and Year 2 embarked on a marvellous design journey!

The children explored different ways to join materials, experimenting with staples, glue, and tape to discover which methods worked best for their puppet creations. This hands-on investigation linked directly to our Design and Technology objectives, encouraging them to test, evaluate, and refine their ideas while developing practical making skills.

Inspired by our Christmas nativity show Whoops-a-Daisy Angel, each child designed a hand puppet representing one of the beloved characters. They carefully drew and cut out glove shapes, then joined them together before adorning their puppets with sequins, fabric scraps, ribbons, and other embellishments. The results were nothing short of spectacular—each puppet bursting with personality and festive sparkle.

Beyond the making, this project also connected to our Religious Education objectives. By recreating nativity characters, the children deepened their understanding of the Christmas story, reflecting on its meaning and significance. Their puppets became more than just craft projects—they were storytelling tools, helping them to retell and celebrate the message of Christmas in a joyful, creative way.

The atmosphere was one of excitement, collaboration, and pride. Watching the children bring their ideas to life reminded us all of the power of imagination and the importance of linking learning across subjects.
