Awe, wonder and architecture!

Our Year 1 children have stepped into the world of Iggy Peck, Architect with incredible imagination and enthusiasm. Inspired by their new text, they became real-life architects and builders, designing and constructing their own buildings using nothing more than scrap paper, masking tape, and a whole lot of creativity.

Working together, they explored what makes a structure tall, strong, and stable. There was a real sense of awe as their ideas took shape—towers stretching upwards, arches balancing carefully, and walls reinforced with clever design choices. The classroom buzzed with excitement as each group tested their creations.

Armed with a metre stick, the children proudly measured their tallest structure, which reached an impressive 134cm. They also put their engineering skills to the test by seeing how many toy cars their buildings could hold. The strongest structure amazed everyone by supporting 4 toy cars without collapsing.

The joy, curiosity, and teamwork on display were truly wonderful. Year 1 have shown that with imagination and determination, even the simplest materials can become something extraordinary.
