Science Week 2026

Year 1 and Year 2 threw themselves into Science Week with curiosity, creativity, and plenty of hands‑on investigation. The week began with exploring flight: the children designed and made paper helicopters, gliders, and planes, experimenting with different shapes and sizes. Out on the playground and in the hall, they tested each design to see how far they could fly and how long they could stay in the air, measuring, comparing, and tweaking their creations like real engineers.

A standout moment was joining a live online farming event with the NFU, where the children discovered just how much science is involved in life on a farm. They learnt about animal care, the surprising ways cow poo acts as its own microhabitat, and how farmers support biodiversity by protecting wildlife on their land. The session also introduced them to the world of sheepdogs, including the special commands they learn and the fact that it takes three years to fully train one. They explored how birds can indicate the health of an environment, and even delved into the science of tractors, discovering that different types are designed for different jobs.

Science Week was a brilliant blend of investigation, discovery, and real‑world learning, leaving the children buzzing with questions and excitement about the world around them.
