Why are bees important?-8th May 2026

We started by watching a short BBC Newsround video about bees, learning how they visit flowers and carry pollen to help plants grow. The children shared what they noticed and discussed why bees are important.

We then planted wildflower seeds in our raised bed - weeding and clearing, loosening the soil and adding more soil, scatttering the seeds and then watering.  As we worked, we discussed what we were doing:

“We are planting flowers to help bees. Bees need flowers for food.”

The children enjoyed taking part and showed care for nature.

In our reflection, we talked about how we helped bees and what they need.

Bees help flowers grow, and we help bees by planting flowers.

We also spotted some busy bees.
