Science - Visit to Launceston College

On Tuesday, Year 5 and 6 met at Launceston College for a science workshop. They took part in three different sessions, each with a different focus.
During the first session, the children carried out a number of tests to investigate which materials would be most effective at removing oil from water. They made predictions and then carried out experiments to test their theories. Throughout the session, the children were observing, recording results and comparing the effectiveness of different materials. They used scientific enquiry skills to make predictions, carry out tests, analyse findings and explain conclusions.
In the second activity, they used light boxes to investigate how rainbows are formed. They used maths skills along with science to reflect light, measure angles and then separate the beam into a rainbow.
Finally, the children took part in an investigation called a Stroop Test. It was a test of our brains against the clock. Surprisingly, we were quicker when we turned the words upside down!! I will let the children tell you more about that one :)
The whole class were fantastically behaved and should be proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the morning - I was very proud of them! :)
