Chance to Shine

4th June 2025

We’re bowled over with excitement!
We are incredibly fortunate to once again have our application accepted for the Chance to Shine Cricket Programme — an initiative that brings the game to life for children in a fun, engaging, and educational way.
Today marked the first of six exciting sessions for our KS1, EYFS, and Class 7 pupils — all led by the energetic Nick Matthews, who the children have already nicknamed “Mr Cricket” with great affection!
The day began with a brilliant assembly where children learned more about the wonderful sport of cricket — its values, its energy, and its fun. Then it was into the hall for their first session, where they began exploring the basic skills of throwing, catching, batting, and teamwork — all wrapped in lots of laughter and movement.
A highlight of the day? An unexpected (but very entertaining!) showdown between Miss Wonnacott and Mrs Morris — the children were thrilled by the competitive spirit on display!
We're thrilled to announce that Nick will also be running an after-school cricket club for up to 16 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils for the remainder of the term. Sign-up forms have been sent electronically home today — spaces are limited, so act fast!
The buzz around school is real — children and staff alike are already counting down to next week’s session.
